Today I choose to Embrace.........ME

I came across an article on Clutch E-Magazine online where they were interviewing Jada Pinkett-Smith and she mentioned something that really stood out for me:

"Age has brought maturity and more comfort in my skin and in the world than I did in my 20s.”

“At that age, you’re looking for the dude to take care of you, or your mom. In your 30s, you start to connect with your own internal power. Once I decided to take care of myself, then everything else that was supposed to fall in place did.”

I am 26 years old now and I can look back and see how I always wanted to be rescued, always worried about what others thought of my personality and appearance. Last week I was reading up on old blog posts of mine circa 2003 and wow did I ever yearned to be rescued by a man. I think it's safe to say that many of us women (many will never admit to it) yearned to be rescued and accepted regardless of how independent she claimed to be. Many have danced around the living room listening to Aretha Franklin's I will Survive and R-E-S-P-E-C-T telling ourselves we didn't need the opposite sex only to find ourselves the next day sitting by the phone waiting on "the call".

As you get older you begin to realize that only YOU can make things happen and you shoul donly please and do for yourself. And like Jada says once you are intune with your internal power and take care of yourslef; only then will everything else that is supposed to fall into place, will. So I will embrace my 30's as it is just around the corner. Ain't nothing like getting to know me as I reflect upon the old me and rejoice in all of my new Woman goodliness!

The Peplum Dress is Making a Comeback!

So as I did some research on some Fall trends of 2009 I keep seeing the Peplum over and over again. Let's take a trip down memory lane:

The Peplum Dress in the 1940's:

The Peplum Dress in the 80's:

It is now the must have Fall trend for 2009!

Here is Mollie rockin a nice purple peplum number

The ever so ravishing Ms. Estelle with a gray peplum number (my favorite so far!)

And of course SJP never stays behind from a trend!!!

Here are some ways to rock the Peplum today:

I personally think the peplum is so nice. Not all styles however but there are many different styles of the peplum dress to suit many body styles. Here is an interesting article I found at whowhatwear.com regarding the fashionably peplum dress:

As fashion fanatics know, this certainly isn't the first time the peplum dress has enjoyed a place in fashion's pantheon. Though we won't bore you with the long history of this design (which originated in ancient Greece of all places), the silhouette's primarily associated with two decades: the forties and the eighties. In the former, women wore peplum-appended coats and dresses as a way to draw attention to a tiny waist and hourglass figure—without being overtly erotic. Forty years later, the style re-emerged with a vengeance when visionaries like Thierry Mugler created body-con garments with exaggerated flips of fabric at the hips or the stomach for an especially dramatic effect. This season, the peplum is enjoying yet another renaissance of sorts, as modern-day design dynamos are offering both the ladylike and "Like A Virgin"-inspired styles. The range of choices available means that you're sure to find something that works with both your body and your budget, so it's no wonder that we endorse this trend. All in all, a peplum cocktail dress is the perfect way to add a little pizzazz to your routine fancy fare! (excerpt from www.whowhatwear.com) click on the link to check out the entire article.

Do you like the peplum? Let me know how you feel about it - would it be a Fall trend you will rock or not?

P.S. For the plus size ladies - there are some peplum dresses at Torrid with certain peplum styles to fit our volump figs :)

I LOVE me some TORRID!!!

So I took a trip to the Neshaminy Mall today with the babes and my 2 brothers and I came across a store called Torrid. Now I had shopped here once back in 2007 but the one in New Jersey Cherry Hill Mall. This is definitely my kind of store! Plus size but the styles are way better than like Lane Bryant. This is a more urban, chic, divalicious type of store and I loved it! Price range I saw was $20-$70 with 30's and 40's being the regular prices of things. I tried on this purple and black dress and I fell in love! My boyfriend gave me a belt to use to cinch the waist to complete the look and it made it even betta! My man is so great in helping me find cute clothes and he can see ahead of time what will work for me. Love u babes! Anywho here is the dress:

Sorry if it came out a bit blurry, it's juss that on the website, it was pretty small and when I tried to resize it, the pixels got out of whack :/

Anyways, there was so many things I wanted to leave with so bad! I can't wait until I have the funds to go and just wild out at this store. I need a new look and I feel Torrid has definitely got what I am looking for.

I also been thinking about the Fall 2009 Fashion trends. I wonder what will be in...anyone know? I am so like reinventing myself, I am like sooooooo long overdue it's not even funny!

Let me know if there is a 2009 fashion trend you love or hate an why. Would love to hear about it!

Veet Is The Truth!

So I bought the new Veet hair remover pump from Rite Aid yesterday. I was in the shave aisle for a WHILE tyring to figure out if I wanted Nair or Veet. I even asked my man "The commercial with the sexy girls showing their legs and dancing about smooth legs was that Veet or Nair"? LOL He said Nair. I decided to try Veet however. This thing is the truth! I applied it using the flexi spatula it came with. I think its great! Some things to know tho, it took away about 99% of my hair and it leaves behind a little smell. To me it smells like burning hair...lol I have course hair so next time I might use more product and leave it for 10 minutes instead of 3-6 it recommends.
The bottle is 13.5 Fl. Oz. for $10.99. The product itself is creamy like a lotion. There are two different types of bottles - one is Green which is for dry skin and one is Blue which is for Sensitive skin. Leave in time for sensitive skin was 10 minutes surprisingly versus the normal dry skin one which recommends a leave in time of 3-6 minutes.
Either way, it left my legs feeling baby bottom smoooooooth! Just wash away with soap or your daily liquid body wash to get rid of the smell.
Want to try it out? visit their website for a $2 off coupon to print out to use at www.veet.com click the link :)
